NRCC says Murphy is stalling on immigration enforcement bill

The NRCC is targeting Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Bristol) for aiding an effort by House Democratic leaders to stall immigration enforcement legislation from coming to a vote. Republicans are pushing Murphy and other Democrats to sign a discharge petition that would put the Secure America with Verification and Enforcement Act to an up-or-down vote by lawmakers.

"Rep. Patrick Murphy (PA-08) is caught in a tug of war on Capitol Hill between his liberal Democrat leaders and his constituents at home in Pennsylvania," read an NRCC statement.

"Patrick Murphy is trying to have it both ways on the immigration issue," said NRCC spokesman Ken Spain. "If Patrick Murphy is serious about securing our borders, he will sign the discharge petition and stop pandering to his Democrat leaders in Washington."
Murphy, an Iraq war veteran, won the 8th Congressional district seat by just 1,500 votes in 2006. There is speculation that Tom Manion, a lawyer whose son was killed in Iraq will emerge as a Republican contender.
