NRCC optimistic about its Pennsylvania primary winners

One day after Pennsylvania Republicans chose their candidates for Congress, the National Republican Congressional Committee is already trying to raise expectations for its success in the general election.

The Keystone State has produced a solid field of GOP candidates. Republicans are poised to pick up and defend a number of targeted seats this fall,” read an NRCC memo released today.

In the wake of yesterday’s contentious Presidential primary contest, the NRCC believes that neither Clinton nor Obama provided “substantial down-ballot support for Democrats in the majority of competitive House races in Pennsylvania,” an indication, according to the memo, “that targeted Democrats will be left vulnerable.”

In the 10th Congressional District race, where businessman Chris Hackett edged out Dan Meuser by just 3,000 votes, the NRCC believes a November showdown between Hackett and incumbent Rep. Chris Carney “remains one of the best pick up opportunities for the GOP in the country.”
