Casey voted for Lieberman to keep post

Joining the majority of his Democratic colleagues, U.S. Sen. Bob Casey voted Tuesday to allow U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) to keep his chairmanship of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, The Washington Post reports.

Casey had previously hedged when asked how he would vote. In the end, he joined 41 other Senate Democrats in what was a good day for Lieberman, who had angered many Democrats with his fierce advocacy for John McCain-and against Barack Obama-during the presidential race.

"I was as frustrated and angry as anyone else," Casey acknowledged to The Post.

Casey agnostic on Joe Lieberman's fate

With Democrats in Washington preparing to decide whether to punish U.S. Sen. Joe Liberman (I-Conn.) for his full-throated support of John McCain, Pennsylvania's Democratic Senator is unsure whether he will vote to strip Lieberman of his committee leadership.

U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, an early and fervent supporter of Barack Obama, told The Hill that while he was frustrated with Lieberman, retaliation might not be the best idea.

"I was frustrated when I listened to him to undermine Barack Obama, but we're going to have to think carefully on how that frustration plays out in the interests of getting things done," Casey said.

A day to court Jewish voters in Philly

With the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur over, both presidential campaigns are unleashing surrogates today to court Jewish voters in Philadelphia.

U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) was scheduled to stump for Republican John McCain at the B'rith Shalom House on Conshohocken Avenue this morning before visiting the Congregation of Shaare Shamayim this afternoon.

On the Democratic side, U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz (D-Abington), state Sen. Connie Williams (D-Montgomery), state Rep. Josh Shapiro (D-Abington), state Rep. Daylin Leach (D-Upper Merion) and former Philadelphia City Controller Jonathan Saidel were scheduled to stump for Barack Obama at the Klein Jewish Community Center this afternoon.

Rogers hopes for a Lieberman bounce

ARDMORE-Republican candidates across the state have been talking about the bump they hope to get from the excitement generated by GOP vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin. On Sunday, state Senate candidate Lance Rogers was hoping for a boost from a past vice-presidential nominee: the Joe Lieberman bounce.

It might not sound as exciting, as Lieberman, the Independent senator from Connecticut, is hardly a household name. But after Lieberman came here for a small McCain rally at Rogers' campaign headquarters, Rogers said Lieberman symbolized the kind of politician he wants to be.

"It means a lot," Rogers, who is running in the 17th Senatorial District, told PolitickerPA.com after Lieberman spoke. "Sen. Lieberman is an independent, bi-partisan reformer. That's what my campaign is about. That's what my record shows."

Lieberman, complimenting Rogers' campaign headquarters on Lancaster Avenue in Ardmore, quickly pointed out the connection between him and Rogers as he took the stage to cheers from local GOP faithful. Rogers' mother Susan and Lieberman were high school classmates in Connecticut.

"I'm surprised that a classmate of mine could have a son so young," Lieberman joked.

Lieberman calls Pa. critical to McCain’s hopes

ARDMORE-Rallying for John McCain's presidential campaign here Sunday, U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) said Pennsylvania's 21 electoral votes would be key to determining the outcome of the presidential race.

Lieberman predicted that McCain would hold onto both Ohio and Florida, both states won by President Bush in 2004, but that other red states could turn blue.

"The one state, in my opinion, that can turn this thing around is Pennsylvania," Lieberman told GOP faithful who had turned out on a rainy day for his appearance at state Senate candidate Lance Rogers' campaign headquarters.
