MontCo Dems chief says 'there's no ceiling' on registration gains

DENVER--Montgomery County Democrats have been making steady gains in voter registration for years, culminating in this spring's primary surge that ended with Democrats outnumbering Republicans for the first time in decades.

Montgomery County Democratic Committee Chairman Marcel Groen sees those gains continuing well past this year's election cycle, he told PolitickerPa.com.

"Right now, the upward movement continues," said Groen, a superdelegate to the Democratic convention here."There's no ceiling."

Currently, Democrats hold a narrow edge of less than 20,000 registrants, but Groen has high hopes.

"Our goal is to reverse what it's been," he said. "We'd like to get to a solid Democratic majority. It's hard to define solid. But I think we can get to 60 percent."
