Residents of a Bensalem apartment complex that recently saw their on-site polling station moved a mile away have sued Bucks County in an attempt to have the polling place returned by election day, The Bucks County Courier Times reports.
The residents of Creekside Apartments, in a federal lawsuit filed Monday, allege that county officials removed voting booths from the complex to discourage people from casting their ballots in the Democratic district, The Courier Times reports.
The county elections board had said upon moving the polling station a mile away in 2007 that it was in response to complaints about violence at Creekside. One such complaint came from a former Republican committeeperson, according to The Courier Times.
There is no state Senate election in Bensalem this fall, with state Sen. Robert Tomlinson (R-Bucks) not yet up for reelection in the 6th Senatorial District. But if the polling station's move does indeed stymie Democratic turnout, it could hurt efforts by Democrat Harris Martin to unseat state Rep. Gene DiGirolamo (R-Bensalem) in the 18th Legislative District.
