John Edwards and the death of mainstream media

John Edwards admission that he lied and dismissed reports of an affair with Rielle Hunter, a filmmaker hired to cover his presidential campaign, may have ended his public life, but did it also signify an end to the era in which the mainstream media controlled the agenda for national political journalism?

The mainstream media share the blame for creating a culture of scandal and "who's up, who's down" reporting rather than emphasizing the substance of candidates and their views. On the average, I would say, the blogs are actually more substantive in their coverage than the MSM. Read this blog today and then read the Inquirer: where do you get more news and where do you get more fluff? Blaming the blogs is pointless.
