Monroeville, PA - Steve O'Donnell, candidate for U.S. Congress, assailed Congressman Tim Murphy doing nothing to improve the job situation in Western Pennsylvania.
Today, the U.S. Department of Labor reported today that 159,000 non-farm workers lost their jobs in September, the largest single month change since 2003. Although the unemployment rate remained steady at 6.1%, this is due to the fact that many workers have gotten so discouraged that they have stopped looking for jobs and thus do not appear in unemployment statistics. The story was reported in the New York Times, Washington Post, and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The statistics included a loss of 51,000 jobs in manufacturing alone.
"People in Western Pennsylvania have been suffering job losses for a long time," said Steve O'Donnell. "Many people have lost their jobs, and many others worry that they might be next."
"Tim Murphy has been in Washington for six years, but his only solution is to drill for more oil and to give more tax cuts to the top 1%. Who does this benefit? Not the people of Western Pennsylvania."
