HARRISBURG – Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Robert A. Gleason, Jr. is surprised to see that Congressman Jason Altmire, a Democrat Party Superdelegate, has failed to endorse either of the Democrat Presidential candidates even though Pennsylvanians in his Congressional District overwhelmingly supported Senator Hillary Clinton.
“Although Congressman Jason Altmire said that he plans to remain uncommitted to a Democrat Presidential candidate, all indications show that he stands poised to endorse Barack Obama,” Gleason said. “Supporting Obama, when voters in his district overwhelmingly chose Hilary Clinton on April 22nd, illustrates just how out-of-touch Altmire is with the Pennsylvanians living in his district. It appears that Altmire has not lost his lobbyist touch by supporting a D.C. Democrat rather than following the will of the Pennsylvanians he was elected to represent.
“I think it is telling to see that Congressman Altmire puts more stock in the votes cast in North Carolina and Indiana than the votes cast by his constituents in western Pennsylvania. The Beaver County Times reported that voters in Altmire’s district voted for Clinton by a 66%-34% margin, and I am not sure how Altmire thinks he can ignore his constituents again. This political posturing proves that Jason Altmire is a proud member of the Democrat Do-Nothing Congress that needs a change on November 4th.
“Perhaps, like Obama, Altmire believes that people in his district are clinging to guns and religion because they are bitter! Thankfully, voters will have the chance to vote for a candidate, Melissa Hart, who has always demonstrated extraordinary leadership and who will be an effective champion of the issues that matter most to the residents of the 4th Congressional District.”
