New Manion commercial takes aim at Murphy's Rangel connection

Picking up a strategy being used by Republicans across the state and the country, a new commercial for Tom Manion criticizes his opponent's ties to embattled U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY).

The ad, being aired on local cable, seizes on Rangel's contributions to U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Bristol) and Murphy's support for a Rangel earmark. Rangel is a prolific fundraiser in Democratic circles, and hardly a Democratic candidate has been spared such criticism.

"Believe me," Manion says, "this 30-year marine is going to put an end to taxpayer abuses like that."

Manion is trying to unseat Murphy in the 8th Congressional District.

Disingenous Ad

It is flat out wrong to say that the earmark is for a "personal library" for Charlie Rangel. Blogger Renee Crawford over at www.crawfordstake.com got the facts on the Rangel library after it was used in an attack ad in Green Bay:

"What that $2 million for the Rangel library actually was used for – scholarships and internships for minority and underprivileged students.

Here are the facts: The ad is referring to a $1.916 million dollar earmark for City College of New York’s Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service.

The earmark was in the Labor/HHS/Education appropriations bill H.R. 2764. City College of New York is a public institution that receives public funding. Mary Lou Edmondson in City College’s press department (212 650-5310) says the money is being used for scholarships and internships.

There are currently 19 students in their Masters in Public Service Management program and they are receving scholarships. Ms. Edmondson says the money specifically can NOT be used for construction.

The Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service helps prepare students in City College’s bachelors and masters programs in public administration - particularly underrepresented minority students - for leadership positions in public service. Statistics show that only 6.5% of senior managers in the federal government are black or African-American and 3.73% are Hispanic.

Does that sound like a waste of taxpayer dollars to you?"

Go Manion!

The voters will not forget that Murphy endorsed obama even though his district went to Hillary in the primaries. Murphy ignores his constituents, has ties to the financial debacle democrats of Fannie & Freddie fame, and the bum should be voted out.
