DENVER--Introducing U.S. Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) to the Pennsylvania delegation here this morning, Gov. Ed Rendell and U.S. Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) had nothing but effusive praise for the vice presidential hopeful.
"We’re not Delaware, but we’re awfully close, and we’re extremely proud of Joe Biden," Rendell said. "We’re proud because he’s earned it with an extraordinary career of helping people.
"For the longest time when we didn’t have a Democratic Senator, when we needed help, we called Joe Biden," Rendell said.
Casey called Biden, who was born in Scranton, a "son of the coal country."
"Sen. Biden, welcome home," Casey said to applause.
"I have every confidence in the world that no matter how tough it gets, no matter how rocky the road gets … Joe Biden will be as loyal to [U.S. Sen. Barack Obama], as loyal to the people he’s fighting for, as he’s been to his own family," Casey said. "When things get tough, some people jump off the side of the boat. With Joe Biden, you’ll never hear that splash in the water."
