With devotees of defeated U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) relishing the chance to publicly back her one more time during a roll-call vote at the Democratic convention next week, Clinton's largest backer in Pennsylvania says that he too will take the opportunity to cast his vote for Clinton.
Gov. Ed Rendell, in an interview with PolitickerPA.com today, lauded the resolution reached last week that will allow Clinton's name to be placed in nomination, before U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) ultimately accepts the party's presidential nomination.
"I think Sen. Obama was extremely generous, and I think it's good not because it will display any disunity, but because it honors the hard work of so many people who supported Sen. Clinton," said Rendell, who was one of Clinton's most visible and vociferous campaigners during the run-up to the state's April primary. "Many of the Pennsylvania delegates worked their heart out for Sen. Clinton, and they're excited to cast a vote for her. From my vantage point, that will be closure for them.
"I think it will have the cathartic effect that both Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama are hoping to have," he added.
Rendell, who was widely credited with helping deliver the almost 10-point victory here that Clinton enjoyed, said he would cast his vote for Clinton as part of that symbolic closure.
"Early on, I said I would cast my ballot for Sen. Clinton," he said. "I'm going to cast my ballot for her, and then the moment I cast my vote, I'm going to continue to enthusiastically support Sen. Obama. It's going to be a good release for all of us."
In the days leading up to-and during-the Democratic convention next week in Denver, PolitickerPA.com will continue to track how Pennsylvania delegates plan to cast their ballots.

Right on Ed!
Right on Ed!
This is no favor, these are the rules!
"I think Sen. Obama was extremely generous," What does he mean by this? These have been the Democratic Party Rules and laws for years and years! He is not doing her a favor, he is following the rules! However, he follows the rules his own way with the assurance that he will be elected. If this was the real deal, and everyone voted the way it should be done, she would win!
I am so tired of hearing how Obama has "allowed this"
Isn't the role of a delegate to represent the people who voted for a particular candidate? I hope the delegates remember their purpose. We are holding the Hillary delegates accountable, by voting for her!
I am so tired of hearing how Obama has "allowed this". Obama is the presumptuous, not official nominee, since he does NOT have enough delegates to secure the nomination. Without her name in nomination this would be a coronation, not an election.
History calls for Hillary's name be placed into nomination and on the ballot. HISTORY CALLS FOR THIS. Obama & Co are piddling around acting as tho it's "something to be worked out". It isn't. It's been tradition since 1884. And it had better be a true, open nominating convention, not scripted.
If an exception is made now, with the most successful female candidate IN HISTORY, I'd say it's a clear case of gender discrimination and ripe for the EEOC. After all, their first question is: "Was the woman treated differently than the men in a comparable situation?" Answer is YES if Hillary is not given her and her supporters and her delegates historical due.
Ed Rendell to vote for Hillary in roll call
Thank you Governor Ed Rendell...thank you so much for keeping your heart in the right place...
oh, if only Clinton/Rendell...in my best dreams...
Turning of events
Everyone thought me crazy but I never lost hope she would win the nomination. will obama have turned the AA against her enough to kill her chance. Or will he realize if she loses, he would never be able to run again because he would get blamed for it.
but i knew the news would move from attacking his policies to attacking him. I'm just surprised they started doing it before he got the nomination.
The must have been afraid they wouldn't be able to use it later when hillary won and doesn't pick obama as her vp.
puma
Great...
Rendell throws his support behind the Sour Grapes/Disunity '08 campaign. Clod.
That is so classless of Ed
That is so classless of Ed Rendell, but then again doesn't he have the same problem with his zipper that Bill does?
Would Hillary have done the same?

Let's reverse the roles. Hillary is the
presumptive nominee, and Obama narrowly
missed. Would Hillary have allowed to
put Obama's name on the roll-call?

I'm making a list -- are you?
I'm making a list of all the self-absorbed, divisive shithead "Democrats" who are paving the way for a McCain presidency. And after they plunge our nation into the abyss, I will make it my life mission to ensure that they never again know happiness or peace or anything approaching a restful night's sleep.
Inadvertent truth...
"Release" is actually pretty appropriate terminology on the part of Gov. Rendell, since, presumptions about the sex of most of her supporters notwithstanding, the neverending Hillary campaign seems at this point to pretty much be one big circle jerk.
Dem Convention
When Hillary overwhelmingly won the primaries of states such as New York, Massachusetts, or Pennsylvania; the delegates from those states were obligated to supprt her. But no, Ted Kennedy and Kerry came out for Obama, betraying the will of their constituants, and supporting the will of the DLC corporatists.
This is no longer about Hillary. This is about the corporations shoving the weaker candidate down our throats so that the republicans could still have a shot at continuing their reign of terror on our constitution.
"If this was the real deal,
"If this was the real deal, and everyone voted the way it should be done, she would win!"
sigh. dude, "the real deal" already happened. it was called the primaries. and she lost. she lost. she lost. she lost. do you get that yet?
Careful What You Wish For, Hill
While Hillary and the PUMAs may be hoping to sew discord and maybe even a coup with this latest display of self-absorption, methinks she'll be disappointed when the vast majority of her "pledged" delegates decide not to vote for her, even on the first ballot. Remember it was Hill and Ickes who repeatedly noted that not even pledged delegates are actually bound to vote for their original sponsor (though you can bet they'll be saying differently come convention time). When this backfires, and Hillary gets several dozen delegates at the roll call, we'll be reminded that every time Billary thought they'd out-maneuvered the Obama camp, they found that they were too clever (or, if you prefer, slick) by half.
DLC corporatists
Obama was the DLC choice? Really? Here are a few recent DLC chairs:
-Tom Vilsack (supported Hillary)
-Evan Bayh (supported Hillary)
-Joe Lieberman (supports Lieberman)
-BILL CLINTON
The Clintons were synonymous with the DLC in the 1990s. Remember welfare reform? The DLC is the reason a bunch of netroots folks turned against the Clintons. Get a grip, man. Hillary lost because her campaign stunk! Read The Atlantic's post-mortem.
NOT > > >
All the HRC sore losers are at it again, including Rendell - he's a joke!
It doesn't matter how many permutations and combinations of numbers you try, it doesn't work - let's include MI and FL when they did not follow DNC rules re: primary date - Let's include MI and FL even though Sen. Obama's name was not on the MI ballots - let's include MI and FL even though HRC SIGNED an agreement that MI and FL would not count - let's eliminate ALL the CAUCUS states. Would HRC and her supporters like to add more to the list? Oh yes, Sen. Obama pay my campaign debts because I was stupid enough to continue running my campaign when it was evident there was no way I could win.
Where I come from - HOW YOU PLAY THE GAME IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS WHETHER YOU LOSE OR WIN!
SEN. OBAMA WON THIS RACE FAIR AND SQUARE ! Bottom line - he ran a better race than she did. After all the campaign memos that have been leaked and exposed - I would have been embarrassed as HELL to have had PENN running my campaign - and his low life tricks.
If HRC ever decides to run for office again - I WILL NOT VOTE FOR HER - EVEN IF SHE RUNS FOR DOGCATCHER - and I have only made that decision within the last week because of all this catharsis BS. Bottom line - I don't trust HRC and all those PUMAS.
One last thing to MI and FL voters - HRC was not concerned about your vote until it was obvious she was losing - keep that in mind!
Clinton(s)
I am sooooooooooo sick and tired of the Clintons, both of them! They both speak with a "forked" tongue and I would be very very disappointed if Obama made the mistake of choosing the untrustworthy hillary for his running mate!
"History calls for Hillary's
"History calls for Hillary's name be placed into nomination and on the ballot. HISTORY CALLS FOR THIS."
Um, no, actually, it doesn't.
It hasn't happened since 1984, I believe. IIRC, the runner-up usually takes the floor at some point and moves that the convention vote unanimously for the nominee, at which point there are huge cheers and everyone agrees and the spirit of unity takes over.
Your candidate, who you sincerely believed and believe to be far superior, lost. She was terribly hurt and disappointed, as were you, but she has moved on and is working for the greater good. If you truly respect her, you'll follow her lead.
In Total Agreement
As a New York City resident with two voting age daughters, I will never again vote for Hillary Clinton or her ilk and will do everything in my power to make sure she is not re-elected to anything. I am so tired the the "me" generation which the Clinton drama represents..and tell me again what she did for this country? I don't know, do you? Feminism, HA, HA, HA..
Hillary doesnt deserve the votes
Obama and his campaign worked diligently and intelligently to fairly and justly win this campaign while Billary spent THEIR campaign donors' money on luxury hotels and shameless attacks that THEY used to condemn when under fire from the GOP. All of these supporters whining because another Clinton presidency won't happen or because the first woman presidency won't happen yet need to grow up and stop acting like a bunch of kids playing kickball. You LOST! Billary lost the campaign for you by expecting to have it handed to THEM on the first night, and for what? She deserves the presidency just because she was cheated on? She's a carpet-bagging politician whose from New York, Connecticut, Illinois, California AND the South? SHE VOTED FOR THE WAR! She represents all of the ill politics that have made the Democrats the GOP's puppies for the past 8 years. All of you adamant supporters should be ashamed.
Stop Rewriting History!
"sigh. dude, "the real deal" already happened. it was called the primaries. and she lost. she lost. she lost. she lost. do you get that yet?"
sigh. DUDE. You are deluded. Turn off MSNBC and read a history book.
No one won. No one won. No one won! For god's sake you KNOW THAT BY NOW.
No one wins until the vote in August. THAT'S HOW IT WORKS. If you're frustrated, get mad at the news for misleading you.
Do YOU get that yet?
I don't know what argument you people have against a fair vote. Have you seen the polls? Clinton is the only one who will win the general anyway, don't you want a Democrat in the white house?! Talk about selfish.
You people don't understand
You people don't understand - I'm a politician, and I need RELEASE constantly. I'll actually be getting release several times in Denver besides when i voat for my ol' gal.
re: NY DEM
"Have you seen the polls? Clinton is the only one who will win the general anyway, don't you want a Democrat in the white house?!"
What polls are you reading besides the only ones your stubborn mine will pay attention to?
If it were Hillary vs. McCain, it would be a landslide victory for McCain. And if you really do want a Democrat in the White House, why would you sabotage Obama at the convention? Oh wait, because you are stubborn, whiny supporter of a woman who used getting cheated on as a reason she should be president.
Rendell is, was and always
Rendell is, was and always will be an idiot. I'm a PA resident who is ashamed that he is my govenor. Fat windbag jerk.
No Cartharsis
What's cathartic about this? It is the perpetuation of a failed candidate, failed message, failed campaign. It is our country allowing ego to trump reason. It is a bunch of sore losers who claim sexism while behaving racist.
nomination roll call
Why is it so hard for some Obama supporters to acknowledge that their least-favorite also-ran got roughly half of the primary votes.
That is a BIG deal, and unusual in a primary. This opponent was also the first woman candidate to get a signficant number of primary votes. Sheesh!
The primary is over. Why is it so difficult to even admit that it was a close race with two historical firsts as candidates.
That is worth celebrating. Hooray for the Democratic party.
clinton on ballot
It appears that the Hilary suppports are out-clintoning her. The illusion that somehow she will carry the day at the convention is not only arrogant but could well play into the the McCain camp's plotting to malign Obama. Clinton girls, give up, it's over. Move on.
Admit it you lost
Admit it you lost Clinton/Rendell? You sore losers! Rendell good luck getting re-elected! We will not forget!
glad to vote for Hillary
As a pledged delegate for Senator Clinton, and as a delegate who was elected by the voters, I consider it an honor and duty to cast my initial vote for her. It is my responsibility, and the culmination of my efforts, the wishes of the voters who elected me, and the efforts of the campaign. I wouldn't miss the opportunity for the world! AND, it IS history.
