Former Gov. Tom Ridge (R) is trying to stay above the scandal engulfing the state Capitol.
In an interview Monday with PolitickerPA.com, Ridge said only that he was "surprised and disappointed" by the charges but declined to comment further.
"I'll reserve comment and let the attorney general and legal system take its course," Ridge said.
Two weeks ago, Attorney General Tom Corbett charged 12 current and former members of the House Democratic Caucus with a litany of crimes connected with an alleged scheme to reward political work with taxpayer money.

If you are not for Reform, you are against it
Note to Tom Ridge: If you don't come out supporting the reforming actions you are then against reform. This is not a situation where riding the fence will work.
Joe R. - Are you serious?
Joe R. - Are you serious? "If you don't come out supporting reform you are then against reform?" I have yet to make a public declaration in support of reform, I haven't called my State Rep's and complained, does that mean I am against it? Lets take your statement and offer a different analysis based on an example. "If you don't come out against stupidity, then you are supporting stupidity."
I have yet to see your public declaration in opposition to stupidity. Does that mean you endorse it?
Pull the alarm when there's a fire.
Yes I am serious and no I do not think deriding folks who have a lower IQ is reasonable for a Politician since even us lower IQ folks are still full citizens and afforded a voice in government.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that PA Politics is crooked. Avoiding the topic just makes Mr. Ridge part of the problem, not part of the solution. How about an honest PA Pol simply saying, “Hey we have a problem here.” Don’t you think that would help?? When a well-known PA Pol won’t comment, does it further the reform movement? Is it responsible not to pull the fire alarm when there is a fire?
Every time a PA politician sticks his head in the sand, I think we should collectively kick their exposed butts and ask the obvious question … “Do you think PA Politics needs to be cleaned up?” Simple question, yes or no answer. Given that state government is corrupt, and we all know it is being and has been acceptable, “no comment” is support for the status quo.
If they believe everything is fine, then tell us so and we know where they stand. and we can vote accordingly. It’s time for a change, and anyone who steps up to be a leader, tells the truth and commits to cleaning up state government is going to get my support.
