Former Gov. Tom Ridge has been billed as John McCain's most high-profile in-state surrogate.
But U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Philadelphia) says he's also ready to campaign for the Arizona senator.
"We've been working hard on the upcoming election to elect Senator John McCain as the next President of the United States," Specter said in a statement to PolitickerPA.com.
Like Ridge and McCain, Specter is a moderate Republican who could help the presumptive Republican nominee win over independent voters.
"He has the kind of independence which I think will be appealing to swing voters," Specter said. "If he can carry Pennsylvania, and I think he can, he has a great chance to be the next president."
Specter said McCain, who he's already talked to several times about the Keystone State, has an "excellent" chance to win Pennsylvania.
Republicans have had a real bad month while things have been great for Democrats over the last month (unless your name is Bill DeWeese). >
