Barack Obama will return to Pennsylvania on Friday when he makes a morning campaign stop in Montgomery County, one of the all-important suburbs of Philadelphia that could decide which direction the state swing in November.
The event, to be held at 9 a.m. in Abbington High School, comes at the heels of polls released this week that shows the Democratic presidential nominee increasing his lead over Republican nominee John McCain.
Obama has not campaigned in Pennsylvania in nearly a month, when he held events in York, Lancaster and Wilkes-Barre the first week of September.
Since the primary, McCain has made significantly more campaign stops than Obama in Pennsylvania. Republicans say the state's 21 electoral votes could go to a Republican for the first time in 20 years because of McCain's appeal to independents.
Obama, however, has had the advantage of a six-week campaign here in April when he competed against U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) in the primary.
Obama is expected to talk about his plans to "stand up for middle-class families."
Please don’t take this the
Please don’t take this the wrong way, but a friend has recommended that I reach out to you about a problem that you may be having but may not be aware of: Have you ever considered whether your ostentatious support for Senator Barack Obama is really a disguise that hides a deeply anchored form of racism towards Black-Americans?
Racism comes in many forms, and there is a significant possibility that your sponsorship of Senator Obama is really an obsessive compulsion to prove to yourself, and to others, that you are not a racist. Have you looked within yourself and examined your motives?
Sure, we can turn it all into a joke, like some have: an Obama lawn-sign is the yuppy status-symbol du jour; a hip and shiny accessory, this season’s iPhone. “But dear, every Volvo in the Whole Foods parking lot has an Obama sticker on it!”—that’s yet another parody of White property-owning affluence as described by stuffwhitepeoplelike.com
Have you really considered why you are so fixated by Senator Obama? How important was the pigmentation of Obama’s skin in spurring your interest? Do you really believe that he, or anyone else for that matter, is more qualified to run for the presidency than Senator Hillary Clinton? C’mon, let’s be honest with ourselves; that’s the first step in the healing process.
Isn’t making a big deal out of Obama’s skin color just another form of racism?
Unfortunately, Senator Obama and his team have approached this question in a very cynical way. Can anyone really brand former President Bill Clinton a racist? After all he had done for Black people? Well, the Obama campaign did. Can anyone accuse the Rev. Jesse Jackson of being a racist against Blacks? The Obama campaign almost did.
You should be absolutely certain that you are not being carried over to the voting booth upon a guilt trip. You should take this opportunity to look deeply within yourself and ask, “Why did I fall for Obama? Why am I, after all that we have accomplished on racial issues, still feeling guilty? Am I an unconscious racist? Am I any better than those who pretend not to stare at an inter-racial couple?”
I’m sorry to tell you that voting for Obama does not absolve you of racism, it may even confirm it. You may be besotted by Obama because he’s the least-black, half-Black politician out there. Did you catch yourself thinking that Obama is remarkably “clean” and “articulate,” as Senator Joe Biden condescendingly said?
I beg you to visit www.instituteforhealingracism.org, and allow the healing process to begin. Cleanse your soul of the last vestiges of racism, and come over to a better world of hope, understanding and self-awareness.
Reggie_will stop being passive aggressive, please.
ew on the comment Reggie_will.
Wow was that a troll? Very passive aggressive. I think you need to take a look at yourself first because that was offensive, seems like you're helping create racism instead of helping end it.
My Take
As a native of this country (I am Blackfoot), I probably have a unique view of this topic. It's something both sides are guilty of festering. While bigotry does exist, Racism isn't restricted to whites. A lot of blacks are ignorant to the fact that 75% of the people living in this country had nothing to do with slavery. Many immigrants came here after it was abolished, so you're placing guilt where there should be none. Not to mention the thousands who never supported it and fought in the Civil War to put a stop to it. You dishonor their memory. This country started out as English colonies. England began the issue of slavery, but their citizens have put it behind them, and black and whites enjoy a far better relationship than here. It's time to let it go. Both sides - stop promoting your hate. Before you say that's easy for me, look at what's been done to my ancestors. When's the last time you heard one of my kin complaining?
racisn't
Reggie_will has made points toward promoting a controversy that has been around at a low level for quite some time. I say "so what." If that is part of what it takes to overcome ones natural xenophobia, great! The fact that Obama is the most intelligent, articulate man to run for this office in a long time is evidence that we are in a win-win with our fears. He has come along at a time when members of the shrinking middle class have finally taken notice of the disgrace that too many of us have allowed to exist in Washington. I've been astounded that people still cling to the conservative philosophy that has spawned this crisis of the economy. If people were unselfish - unregulated trickle down might be a good idea but (and it's a big but) it has been tried over and over... IT JUST DOESN'T WORK. The captains of finance and industry are too short sighted and narrowly focused for that philosophy to do anything but encourage their own greed. So I say a little introspection into our own biases and fears is a good thing for all of us.
obama may not even be a citizen
Why did the DNC file a motion to dismiss in the lawsuit that is pending against obama in regards to his birth certificate? He has been ordered to produce it. What are they trying to hide? If he didn't have something to hide, they would just produce the birth certificate, not file a motion to dismiss.
