Gov. Ed Rendell: Getty Images PhotoGov. Ed Rendell said Thursday there's "absolutely no reason" presidential nominees Barack Obama and John McCain can't debate as scheduled Friday night.
McCain has called for a delay because of the country's financial crisis, but Rendell said the senator from Arizona needs to be able to do two things at once, especially with a bailout deal reportedly already reached in Congress.
"Gosh, if you're a president, you better learn to multi-task," Rendell said.
The governor applauded McCain's decision to return to Washington, but he said the presidential nominee would have better served the country if he had agreed with Obama's plan to release a statement outlining their shared principles.
"Far better than suspending a debate would have been a letter from the two candidates outlining joint principles," Rendell.
His remarks, made at a mid-afternoon press conference, echo those he made to the New York Times on Wednesday.
The governor also outlined his proposal for a bailout plan, which he conceded was probably moot now that an agreement has seemingly been reached. Rendell lamented the fact the bailout will probably lack an economic stimulus plan for ordinary Americans and not contain a provisions to invest $100 billion in the nation's infrastructure.

McCain's Debate Fraud
Of course there's no reason to holdup the debate. Unless, that is McCain wants to hold it up for his own reasons, to let the clock run while the early voting states cast their ballots.
There never was a reason. Nobody in Congress called for his help on the deal. Bush' press office let the cat out of the bag today - McCain first called Bush, then Bush called Obama but issued a statement saying that he had reached out to "both candidates". The basic Bush-McCain complicity over keeping the truth from the voters.
McCain said he was suspending his campaign, then cancelled Letterman, where he would have had to answer questions live, BUT attended Bill Clinton's Global Conference today BECAUSE HE GOT TO GIVE A SCRIPTED SPEECH ON THE ECONOMY AND HAVE IT ON NATIONAL TV. Know what that's called? It's called big time campaigning.
Meanwhile, he wasn't rushing to Washington to help any negotiation go through today. He won't hit DC until the 4.30 meeting with Bush. In the interim, the bailout negotiation is progressing well, they're getting near to agreement and he hasn't been involved and two days ago, hadn't even read the 2 1/2 page $700Billion proposal.
There never was a reason. It was a stunt. A heist. A big lie. A fraud. If McCain continues to try and avoid his responsibility to US voters, as a presidential condidate, he should be kicked out of the race - let Barr take his place.
Don't Insult Me
It's funny how Democrats keep trying to point to McCain's actions as a political stunt, but Obama is the one pulling out the smoke and mirrors. Friday's debate is supposed to focus on Foreign Affairs. He should be glad to get out of the areas he's weakest at, but he took the opportunity to futher divert attention from that. God forbid people think about what's going on in the world, and then think about Obama being the one to deal with it.
Get your facts straight. Tuesday, the Democrats said they could really use McCain for the deal. When he decides to, they pull a 180 and try to make him look bad. That's your political stunt. No? Here's proof you're hypocrites:

Every speech Obama gives is scripted. The man doesn't talk quite as eloquently when put on the spot. Vote for him and you're electing a fabricated image, not who he really is.
Democrats want you to believe he's another Bush, but that's an outright lie. Both Democrats and Republicans hate the man. Even Fox news won't support McCain. That tells me the far right is just as scared of him as the left, and that's why I'm voting for him.
