The pro-choice duo of former Gov. Tom Ridge and U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) each now appear unlikely to be John McCain's vice president.
That's good news if the presumptive Republican presidential nominee wants to perform well enough in central Pennsylvania, said David Dumeyer, chairman of the Lancaster County Republican Party and RNC delegate.
If McCain (R-Ariz.) picked a pro-choice running mate, Dumeyer said, the candidate might not even receive his vote at the convention.
"Yeah, I might," he told PolitickerPa.com. "If I have to stand on principle."
The effect on the rest of the conservative electorate could also be severe, Dumeyer said, especially if McCain picks Lieberman.
Ridge is much more well known among state Republicans, he said, adding that the former governor didn't actively try to increase abortion rights.
But of Lieberman, Dumeyer said, "I think it would probably hurt some of the political capital (McCain's) already built up after a rather splendid performance at Saddleback."
"It'd be a very difficult sell," he said later.
Dumeyer said he and other conservatives would prefer a candidate they perceive as solidly anti-abortion, such at former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney or former Ark. Gov. Mike Huckabee.

The only way McCain gets my vote is with Huckabee, I was almost ready to give him a chance after the Broke Back forum, But then he started with all this Lieberman and Ridge VP talk. So now. The only way i will vote McCain is if he goes that extra mile and puts Huckabee on the ticket. Other wise I will cross the isle and vote Obama or Barr.
It really comes down to this.
Obama= The Great Depression part 2
McCain = Same Great Depression part 2 with
a side serving of WWIII
I will take Obama.
