Westmoreland County Commissioner Kim Ward officially entered
Kim Ward: Campaign Photo the 39th state Senatorial District race Wednesday, setting the stage for what will surely be an intense, closely watched race already rocked by the sudden resignation of state Sen. Bob Regola (R-Westmoreland County).
Although Ward is not officially on the ballot until the Westmorland County Republican Committee selects her, it will almost certainly do so when it meets Saturday.
"The decision to enter the race after running for County Commissioner last year was a challenging and difficult one," Ward said in a statement. "Running for another office at this time wasn't something I was seeking or planned to do, but this unexpected turn of events and outpouring of calls of encouragement from friends and strangers, has led me to believe it is something that needed to be done."
Ward told PolitickerPA.com on Tuesday that she knows with only two and a half months before Nov. 4, she will have to hit the ground running in her campaign.
She faces Democratic candidate Tony Bompiani.

Regola Supporters DO NOT
Regola Supporters DO NOT take this lying down. The PA / Westmoreland GOP has forced out our great Senator Regola. We voted for him NOT Ward. Again they forced him out, because they didn't like their poll numbers. Senator Regola could have still won this race. They have just told us that our primary votes DO NOT MATTER to them. I myself will now be voting for Bompiani. I refuse to let people outside of Westmoreland County decide who our candidate is going to be. Senator Regola's supporters should stand up for their own vote and refuse to elect Ward the PA GOP's nominee not ours.
I hate to see Regola go too,
I hate to see Regola go too, but I'm sure he wouldn't want all his hard worked over the past few years frittered away by his supporters turning toward a liberal Democrat.
Senator Regola was a
Senator Regola was a democrat until his race for PA Senate. He was a conservative democrat who campaigned with Rendell. He became an actual republican when the GOP handpicked him and financed his campaign. I see no difference in his views as a democrat and then republican as the ones expressed by Bompiani. The GOP cannot use the "liberal democrat" tag on Bompiani because it just isn't truthful and doesn't work. Again Regola was a former democrat, no one wants to acknowledge that fact but he was and that's how he won here in the first place.
Well well well, considering
Well well well, considering I'm a republican because of fiscal and not social issues I find Bompiani's egregious record of raising taxes at Hempfield Area School District to be enough of a reason to continue the Regola tradition of no tax increases with Kim Ward. Regola Supporter(an obvious Democrat with ties to Bompiani if you ask me)
too simple?
Don't simplify a complicated issue. Of course Senator Regola never voted to raise taxes. Most Senators don't. Why? Because a large portion of their budget is funded by income taxes. Income taxes are directly proportioned to what???????? You guessed it!! INFLATION!! I bet you are unaware, however, that the State's contribution to public education has dropped significantly over the passed 20 years. Where do you think the school districts need to go to make up for that difference? Correct again! Property taxes!! Now, what you probably didn't know is that Senator Regola voted against the bill to increase the State's funding of public education which would have significantly reduced property taxes. That increase could have easily been funded by cutting the state budget. Could that be easy? Maybe...considering we have the second most expensive legislature in the country. It's not simple. You should contact Dr. Bompiani to pick his brain on this issue and others. info@bompianiforsenate.com
You may not agree with all his points of view, but don't let labels get in the way of the issues.
Joe Scarnati and the PA GOP
Joe Scarnati and the PA GOP may think it's okay to throw my primary vote away like it meant nothing, but I don't. The PA GOP may think it was okay throw away the time I spent campaigning for Senator Regola in the past, but I don't. Since they didn't care about my vote from the primary I guess they won't care about it in the general and I'm not voting for their candidate. Kim Ward made a bad decision to run as far as her political career goes.
As an independent voter who
As an independent voter who leans republican and who voted in the previous state senate election for Regola I must say that I concur with Regola supporter. I was not able to vote in the primary due to being an independent which is more PA backwards thinking, but nonetheless had I been and voted for Regola I'd be miffed too. As I find here in Westmoreland County the GOP has many like 39th above that automatically starts calling anyone that voices their own opinion in their party a democrat. Does this person not have a right to be miffed about their participation in the process being null and void? I believe he or she does. I personally would have voted for Regola again even with his troubles. I will not be voting for Ward mainly due to how she came about being the nominee and partially due to thinking Bompiani seems like a decent fellow with longstanding ties to the community. I also do not believe that Ward has anywhere near the ability to get the crossover vote that Regola received last time due mainly to his previous life as a democrat and establishing his career as a democrat prior to that election. The PA GOP has made their bed on this issue and now they have to lay down in it. I think they have made a fatal mistake for themselves and for the political future of Ms. Ward.
All she needs is a glass of
All she needs is a glass of red wine and a pillow in the picture when she passes out drunk at Juicy Lucy's. Harrisburg better make sure their beer cooler is stocked if she wins
Westmoreland GOP did not force Regola out
Regola supporter:
The Westmoreland GOP did not force Sen Regola out. I worked to keep him in the race. Bob told me he would be found not guilty and I believed him. In my opinion, I would have rathered stood by a friend and good state senator AND lossed the seat than turn on Bob. However, Bob decided to not run for re-election. I respect that decision and I will support Kim Ward for the state senate.
Maybe I'll believe
Maybe I'll believe Westmoreland GOP didn't lead the charge, but I will never believe that Scarnati and his crew didn't. They saw the polls and pushed him out. I don't care what Senator Regola says he's no dummy he knew last April this would all come up. If he stepped down then fine. All of this didn't come to him in the middle of the night the day before the deadline. Please don't try and tell us with a straight face that it wasn't suggested to him to get out. It doesn't matter everyone has their opinion, but I know many Regola supporters that will not vote for Ward based on these same reasons. We feel our votes have been tossed away like old trash and our votes have been disrespected. Maybe you can win us back in 4 years, but this one is over with. I hope someone promised Ward something other than a win, because I think she is making a huge mistake.
Regola Supporter is pretty much accurate
I don't believe in throwing out the baby with the bath water. Bob regola made much progress in pushing the conservative agenda in harrisburg and I give him credit for that. Here's the problem, Dem or Republican, our elected officials are by and large scumbags. I don't think regola was one but I can tell you this with 100% certainty. Kim Ward is the happiest person in the world that thigns played out the way they did. Why do you think she stayed away from Bob through everything. not one word of support. Scarnati supported him the entire time, she sat quiet and talked about stupid shit at community colleges. She just wants her name in lights, whatever way she can get it. Make no mistake about it, most republicans know this. ONce Ward is out, everyone will go back to the GOP. She has crushed this party while claiming to empower it. She doesn't care though, as long as her name is in lights.
Kim Ward is not in it for the Glory
Kim is not in it for the Glory!! I know Kim and Bob both personally and spoke with both of them regulary during the Priimary and up to the day Bob dropped out. I believe Bob hand picked Kim because she has the ability to win this county and this district. Kim came in second in the county for votes in her comissioners race and this shows she has crossover appeal. Plus on top of things kim is the first commissioner we have had that actually has showed us what is going on with the courthouse and making us actually aware of things going on with it. I respect kim for her taking this hard step to replace Bob because she did not want him to step down. Bob wants everyone behind kim because she is truely the best canadit to take his place. I am still behind my friend Kim Ward. And I have wished the best to my friend Bob Regola.
