DCCC hits English in new ad

WASHINGTON - The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is also out with a new television ad targeting U.S. Rep. Phil English (R-Erie), a seven-term incumbent facing a difficult battle for re-election against Democrat Kathy Dahlkemper.

“We already know Congressman Phil English sided with oil and gas interests, voting more than $2.6 billion in tax breaks,” an announcer says. “Now this: English voted for tax cuts for the wealthiest 1 percent, but voted to raid the social security trust fund, risking the retirement security of Pennslylvania seniors. Kathy Dahlkemper, she’ll stand up to the special inters, protect social security, and fight for us.”

The DCCC is spending $88,000 to air the 30-second ad on stations in the northwest Pennsylvania-area district. It is the committee’s second ad in the race.

Ken Spain, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, argued that Democrats were trying to bail out Dahlkemper’s campaign, which has lagged on the fundraising front. Through June, the challenger had a little over $100,000 in her bank account.

“Democrats are desperately trying to prop up Kathy Dahlkemper’s campaign in order to compensate for her anemic campaign fundraising operation. That is why they are resorting to false and misleading attacks in order distract from her anti-drilling, tax-hiking agenda,” said Spain.

Had the DCCC thought that

Had the DCCC thought that Kathy Dahlkemper was a viable candidate - they would have demonstrated their support for her a long time ago - not 2 months before the election. Review the FCC website and you will notice that the vast majority of her funds have come from the Erie area and from family (over $30,000), friends and clients of her family business (or so it would appear).

Voting for Kathy Dahlkemper just because she is your only option other than Phil English is insane. Just because she wants to do the job doesn't mean she is qualified - I'd like to fly a plane, but that doesn't mean I can just jump into the cockpit and start flying. All of her "plans" have been written for her - she doesn't have the expertise to formulate such complex and conprehensive plans. She can't articulate what her "depth and breadth of experience" means. It's really frustrating and depressing that we don't have another choice.....
