House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) is headed to northeast Pennsylvania this weekend to fundraise for Republican U.S. House candidate Chris Hackett.
The event is set to take place Saturday in the Wilkes-Barre suburb of Dallas. A Hackett spokesman declined to specify how much the event was expected to raise.
“We’re happy to have Leader Boehner. It’s an indication of how the national Republican Party views this race and Chris’s conservative record in the district,” said Hackett spokesman Mark Harris.
The event comes less than a week after National Republican Congressional Committee chair and U.S. Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) held a fundraiser for Hackett and campaigned for the Republican recruit in Yatesville.
Hackett is challenging first-term U.S. Rep. Chris Carney (D-Dimock) in what is widely seen as one of the GOP’s most highly targeted races this cycle. Carney unseated beleaguered U.S. Rep. Don Sherwood for the 10th Congressional District seat in 2006.
In September, Hackett will be the beneficiary of a fundraising event hosted by U.S. Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.).
