Carney endorses Clinton out of 'respect' for constituents' primary choice

As Sen. Barack Obama took the nationwide lead in superdelegate commitments, Rep. Chris Carney (D-Dimock) Thursday endorsed Sen. Hillary Clinton in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination, saying he was following the will of his constituents.

"I have watched this primary process very closely -- and as I said I would do, I have weighed the temperament and leadership displayed by Senators Clinton and Obama during the course of this campaign,” Carney said in a statement. “We are extremely fortunate to have two very strong candidates vying to lead our nation. Pennsylvania's 10th District overwhelmingly chose Senator Clinton in the Pennsylvania primary and I will respect their decision. On Wednesday, I had the opportunity to meet with Senator Clinton, and let her know Thursday that I am supporting her.”

State GOP calls on Carney to act on FISA logjam

U.S. Rep. Chris CarneyU.S. Rep. Chris CarneyThe Pennsylvania Republican Party has singled out U.S. Rep. Chris Carney (D-Dimock) to sign a discharge petition that would force the Senate overhaul of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act to the House floor.

"If Congressman Chris Carney is serious about getting things done for the people of his district, then he should join the nearly two-hundred Congressional members who signed a discharge petition that would force the Senate overhaul of the FISA to the House floor," Pennsylvania Republican Party Chairman Robert Gleason said in a statement on Wednesday. "Carney is already on the record as supporting this legislation, but has refused to do anything to help get it passed."

Is Ed Rendell the perfect choice for VP?

Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell with presidential candidate Hillary Clinton: Photo by Getty ImagesPennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell with presidential candidate Hillary Clinton: Photo by Getty ImagesEd Rendell may be the perfect choice for vice president. And I am not talking about if Hillary Clinton wins the nomination. What if Barack Obama wins the Democratic nomination? I know, I'm crazy, Rendell was a Clinton supporter, not a Obama supporter. That's exactly why Rendell makes a great choice. Polls show as many as 20 percent of Clinton's primary supporters would support John McCain in the general election if Obama is the nominee.

Obama's best choice for winning over the Clinton supporters would be for him to put Hillary on the ticket, but that is assuming he would want her on the ticket and assuming she would want to actually help him win the election.
